On December 27, ADOR announced through fan community platform Weverse that the company is taking regular legal action against those who post harmful content, including defamation, insults, sexual harassment, malicious slander, and derogatory nicknames targeting NewJeans.
Below is the official ADOR press release in its entirety:
“HI,
This is LOVE.
We are taking regular legal action against those who post harmful content, including defamation, insults, sexual harassment, malicious slander, and derogatory nicknames directed at NewJeans. Here is an update on the main developments.
First, following previous legal actions, several criminal acts have suffered legal consequences. The Supreme Court imposed a fine of several million won for the crime of creating and distributing fictitious obscene images by combining the artist’s likeness. Furthermore, in numerous cases fines were imposed against defendants who had posted grossly offensive comments. Furthermore, malicious anonymous posts have also been traced back to specific suspects, resulting in police investigations and legal proceedings.
Additionally, we have collected evidence of actions that violate artists’ rights using valuable fan reports and our real-time monitoring. We have filed complaints against numerous creators of harmful content. The complaints include posts that mock the artist’s nationality and appearance, use derogatory nicknames, objectify or belittle the artist, and sexually harass him. These include harmful posts and comments that spread false information, insults and harassment on national and international platforms (DC Inside, Ilgan Best, Naver, YouTube, etc.).
We adhere to a zero tolerance policy and are rigorous in protecting the rights of the artist. We will continue to conduct thorough real-time monitoring across all domestic and international channels, securing evidence and pursuing strong legal action to hold violators accountable, no matter how long it takes.
Your interest and reports help us a lot in our legal efforts. We encourage active reporting through the Integrated Reporting Center for the Protection of Artists’ Rights, which opened in September.
We are always grateful for the love and dedication fans show towards NewJeans. ADOR will continue to strive to protect the rights and honor of the artist.
Thank you.”
Meanwhile, NewJeans announced the termination of the exclusive contract with ADOR on the 29th of last month. The group claimed that ADOR had not remedied breaches of the exclusivity agreement and declared its intention to operate independently.
However, ADOR filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of their exclusive contract with NewJeans, stating that it remains legally binding.
