DJ Yesong sentenced to 8 years in prison for killing delivery driver in DUI crash

Former idol turned DJ Ahn Yesong has been sentenced to eight years in prison for killing a delivery driver while driving under the influence in Seoul.

The 23-year-old, a former member of the defunct group Instar, was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Third Division of the Supreme Court, according to a report by News on December 15th.

On December 10, Judge Lee Hong-gu, who presides over the court, rejected Ahn’s appeal against a 10-year sentence.

Under South Korea’s law on aggravated punishment of specified crimes, the woman was found guilty of dangerous driving resulting in death and fleeing the scene of the crime. Hankyung.

The DJ is also accused of avoiding post-accident measures and drink driving under the Road Traffic Act.

The incident occurred on February 3 at around 4.35am in Seoul’s Gangnam district.

Ahn was arrested after colliding with a delivery man in his 50s, who was riding a motorcycle.

At the time of the crash, Ahn’s blood alcohol level was 0.221 percent, well above the 0.08 percent threshold for driving license revocation in South Korea.

The incident was also Ahn’s second incident of the night, with photos of the DJ revealing that he held onto his dog instead of rendering aid to the injured victim.

“After the first crash, the victim said the defendant got out of the car and said, ‘Does he look like he’s been drinking? Please look over this just once,’ then fled the scene and caused a second accident,” the judge said in an earlier ruling, according to Hankyung.

“But he didn’t even remember how he drove or how he caused the accident, and he gave excuses that are not easily convincing.”

The judge added that Ahn, while fleeing, incurred traffic violations including “stopping in the middle of the road without reason” and “changing lanes while running” and was also driving at 100 km/h before the second accident when he was the speed limit is in force. 50 kilometers per hour.

The prosecution initially asked for a 15-year sentence citing the severity of the crime and because Ahn “shifted responsibility onto the victim even though it resulted in the loss of life, demonstrating a grave lack of culpability,” according to Chosun Ilbo.

The defense asked for leniency, pushing Ahn to compensate the first victim 5 million won ($3,475) and to settle privately with the deceased’s family.

Despite Ahn’s pleas for leniency and an apology to the family, the judge in the case found it “questionable whether the defendant is seriously remorseful,” according to Star News Korea.
