DJ Koo plans memorial for late actress Barbie Hsu, to be unveiled on anniversary of her passing

On January 28, images circulated on Weibo revealed that the statue designed by DJ Koo had been installed in the Jinbaoshan Stone Forest Memorial Park. The monument is located near the grave of the late actor Godfrey Gao. According to reports from Sohu, although the complex has not yet been fully completed, most of the construction is finished, with some workers still making final adjustments and renovations.

The statue is currently covered in black plastic, although parts of the surrounding decorative elements are visible. In front of the monument are a set of nine white steps arranged in an S-shaped curve. Five stone slabs line the path, three on one side and two on the other. Behind the statue are nine white concrete walls, also curved in an S shape, accompanied by curved stainless steel benches.

The memorial site will be officially opened on February 2, the anniversary of Barbie Hsu’s death. Previously, Barbie Hsu’s mother revealed this DJ Koo visited the site every day to check on the construction progress. He shared that each draft project reflected the deep affection his son-in-law had for his wife. Paparazzi also captured DJ Koo repeatedly visiting the grave in inclement weather, scenes that moved many spectators.

On February 3 last year, local media quoted her younger sister Dee Hsu as reporting that Barbie Hsu had died on February 2 from influenza-related pneumonia while traveling in Japan during the Lunar New Year holiday. After his death, DJ Koo expressed his grief, writing: “I am experiencing indescribable pain and sadness. My heart seems to be torn to pieces. I don’t have the strength to speak nor do I want to.”
