Disney+’s next original series The empress remarried is embroiled in controversy after a costume worn by lead actor Ju Ji Hoon appeared to contain a medal resembling a Nazi-era German decoration. The production studio issued a formal apology.
On November 15, Studio N, the production company behind the series, released an official statement acknowledging the issue: “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by our failure to fully review a specific prop that was recently revealed.” The company added, “The production team recognizes the seriousness of the matter and will proceed with careful and thorough follow-up, including replacing published images and taking measures to prevent a recurrence.”
The controversy began after the Disney+ Originals Preview 2025, an official showcase held in Hong Kong on November 13, where stills of The empress remarried have been revealed. Online communities, particularly on Platform

The empress remarried is a romantic fantasy drama adapted from a popular web novel of the same name. The story is set in the fictional Eastern Empire and follows Empress Navier (played by Shin Min Ah), who, after being betrayed by Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji Hoon) who falls in love with a runaway slave Rashta (played by Lee Se Young), asks for a new marriage to Prince Heinrey (played by Lee Jong Suk) of the Western Kingdom. The series is known for its unique world-building, featuring imperial politics, extravagant dances, and elaborate costumes with uniforms and outfits that reflect its alternate universe.
The show is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
