On October 15 (local time), BLACKPINK’s Lisa made an appearance at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, becoming the first K-pop idol to perform at the world’s hottest lingerie event. Since her participation was announced, BLACKPINK’s youngest member has attracted a lot of attention.
Notably, this is the first return of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after a 5-year hiatus, and with the appearance of the Thai star, the media coverage exploded.
Bringing two newly released songs to the hottest lingerie stage – “ROCKSTAR” and “Moonlit Floor” – Lisa gave it her all with a performance that showed off both her figure and her daring choreography. With “ROCKSTAR,” the Thai idol remixed the song with a frenetic pace, full of climactic moments designed for dance and catwalk.
“Moonlit Floor” was sweet and elegant, a perfect backdrop for the angels to shine. On stage with top models from around the world, Lisa didn’t pale in comparison. Donning angel wings for the first time, BLACKPINK’s youngest member showed off her ever-growing look, wearing a sexy lingerie set that stole the spotlight.
However, Lisa still faced criticism. The fallout from two lip-syncing incidents, in which she was accused of relying heavily on backtrack during her performances at the 2024 VMAs and Global Citizen Festival, continued to follow her. Lisa has hit a crisis, with many sarcastically labeling her the “lip sync queen.”
Therefore, her performance at Victoria’s Secret was an opportunity for her to demonstrate her skills and people watched her more closely than usual.
However, Lisa’s new performance in “ROCKSTAR” is said to have an obvious step backwards. To accommodate her intense choreography and individual runway, it appears Lisa used a back track for “ROCKSTAR.” In several parts, she dropped the mic completely and let the backtrack “sing” for her as she focused on hand movements and walking.
For the “Moonlit Floor” stage, however, the situation seems to have changed. Since this performance mainly focused on her voice and interaction with the Victoria’s Secret Angels, it is quite evident that Lisa sang live, showing an excellent vocal performance.
Overall, it seems that although she still has to use backtrack, Lisa only needs it for intense choreographic moments like the dance break in “Rockstar”, and can command the stage well on a stage with less dancing.
