Dee Hsu, MC and younger sister of the late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, became emotional while participating in a New Year’s Eve countdown broadcast at Taipei 101. This marked her first major public appearance since her sister’s death.
According to Sohu, during the recording, Dee Hsu cried several times, especially while reading the lines: “In years past I was in my pajamas with my family for the countdown, but this year someone is missing.” He held his hands tightly and held back tears to complete the broadcast. Finally he read the inscription on his sister’s tombstone: “Remember us together forever.”
Dee Hsu admitted to the media that this New Year’s Eve was the hardest night she has ever faced. During filming, she recalled feeling her sister’s presence encouraging her: “We are still watching the fireworks together and welcoming the new year as always.”
The sisters had shared family traditions for more than 20 years, revealed in previous interviews. No matter how busy they were, they would avoid work on New Year’s Eve, staying home in their pajamas and watching the fireworks from Taipei 101.
Fans expressed sympathy and support on Weibo, commenting that Dee Hsu should do it “overcome these difficult days” and that “Those who remain should live well for the remaining family.”
