Dowoon found himself in hot water for his reel, which became the subject of controversy and discussion in an online thread.
On December 8, netizens gathered at a community forum to discuss a netizen’s statement calling for Dowoon’s withdrawal from DAY6.
According to the statement, the request was made because of Dowoon’s social media clip, which showed the band member playing the drums while casually wearing his military uniform.
The artist’s stylistic choice has sparked negative reactions as South Korea is experiencing public unrest due to protests against the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol. In early December, the South Korean president declared martial law and withdrew its implementation a few hours later, prompting an extreme public backlash.
“Dowoon’s video showing him wearing a military uniform addresses a very sensitive topic happening right now (in the country), which also reflects a lack of responsibility as a public figure.”
The statement also suggests measures to prevent further damage to DAY6 and its reputation, including removing Dowoon from the band.
“JYP Entertainment must release an official statement addressing Dowoon’s actions and take appropriate measures to protect the band’s image and honor. Fans strongly call for Dowoon’s retirement to ensure the group’s image recovery and trust among the members. This is an essential measure for their future and the restoration of the trust of the fans.”
However, My Days were enraged by the statement and expressed how outrageous it was to call for Dowoon’s departure simply for wearing a military uniform.
- “Why would he just leave to do that?”
- “What is this overreaction?”
- “That person who wrote this statement just put the entire name of the fandom in there.”
- “Does this really justify a withdrawal?”
