On December 14, a video titled “The Critical Moments Kim Soo Yong Didn’t Share You quiz: 20 minutes of cardiac arrest” was posted on the YouTube channel Jodongari. The episode featured Kim Soo Yong candidly recounting what happened after he suddenly collapsed and was later declared dead.
When Kim Soo Yong returned to filming, fellow comedians Ji Suk Jin and Kim Yong Man welcomed him warmly, joking about it. applause was in order. The production team applauded, while others took notice he looked younger and thinner. Kim Soo Yong responded with humor, saying: “If you have been to the other world, you should lose weight” eliciting laughter despite the gravity of its story.
The incident occurred on November 14 at a filming location in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, during filming for Kim Sook’s YouTube content. Kim Soo Yong suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the emergency room. His heart stopped for about 20 minutes before he miraculously regained consciousness. He later underwent a stent procedure to treat his condition.
It was revealed that actor Im Hyung Joon, who was present at the scene, had some angina medicine and immediately gave it to Kim Soo Yong. Kim Sook quickly called 911, while his manager performed CPR until paramedics arrived, actions that saved his life.
Kim Yong Man recalled receiving the shocking phone call while traveling in Japan. He said he initially thought it was a jokebut quickly realized the severity when Kim Sook, in tears, asked for Kim Soo Yong’s wife’s contact information. “I received real-time updates, but I couldn’t do anything. I could only cry,” he said.
He added that doctors had already issued a death declaration at one point. Kim Soo Yong later said that hearing that detail later was terrifying. According to Kim Yong Man, paramedics were able to restart Kim Soo Yong’s heart and restore his breathing while continuing CPR.
Ji Suk Jin also shared that Kim Soo Yong had not regained consciousness during transport and that the ambulance was initially headed towards Chuncheon, even considering the morgue, before rerouting to a hospital in Guri after signs of recovery appeared.
Despite the ordeal of life and death, Kim Soo Yong ended the story with humor. He remembered waking up in the intensive care unit and immediately inquiring about a jacket he had worn for the first time that day, a piece he loved. When he tried to get up to look for it, medical staff quickly stopped him, telling him to lie down. Ji Suk Jin joked, “A boy who was on the brink of death…”
