On the 28th, YouTube channel ‘Hyo’s Level UP’ uploaded a video titled “SM Entertainment Audition Failure Story (Hyoyeon x Chungha)”
In the episode, Hyo-yeon said, “I heard that Chungha decided to become a singer and went to numerous auditions without hesitation.” In response, Chungha confessed that she auditioned for all three major agencies: JYP, YG, and SM.
Chungha recalled, “I auditioned for JYP, YG, and SM. JYP was the one who accepted me, YG was in the final round, and just before YG’s final round, JYP accepted me. I had to go to where I was accepted, so I went to the place that responded quickly. However, at the time, I was completely unaware of SM’s audition culture. I saw a lot of Girls’ Generation’s “Tell Me Your Wish” posters and thought, ‘Oh, Girls’ Generation is holding a concert?’ But it was an open audition program. I asked myself, ‘Should I try out?’ It was out of curiosity. I was very raw back then, still wearing a backpack and going to boarding school.”
She continued, “I remember going to the audition before I went back to college on the weekend. I went with a group of ten people each time. Luckily, they asked me to stay. I sang and they asked me to freestyle dance. It was my first time. I said, ‘I don’t know how to dance,'” Chungha said.
She added: “They played the Britney Spears song. I don’t even remember how I danced. I even sang a pop song that I knew. Then I went back to the boarding school. When I entered the boarding school, I had to turn off my phone and hand it to the dorm supervisor. Because I was so shaken, I knew it was okay not to get a call.”
