After an initial investigation, police freed Choi Minhwan from charges of aiding and abetting prostitution and sexual assault. Will he still have custody of his three children?
On November 29, the Gangnam Police Station provided an update on FT Island’s Choi Minhwan’s allegations of violating South Korea’s Anti-Prostitution Law under Article 21 and forcible harassment.
According to the authorities, they decided not to refer the celebrity for prosecution due to lack of evidence and gave him a not guilty verdict.
Previously, National Petition forwarded the case to the police after netizens filed a complaint about his frequent visits to adult stores during his marriage to ex Laboum Yulhee. His ex-wife also revealed audio recordings of Minhwan reserving girls at the establishment through Broker A.
With the verdict, there are concerns about Minhwan’s remaining custody of their three children, but Yulhee’s attorney attested that it would not affect their request for modification of parental rights and custody adjustment.
Lawyer Yang So Young told OSEN on the 29th:
“The incident in question is not a decisive factor (for the request for mediation). The point is that it was initially not discussed for punitive purposes, but to clarify the misunderstandings they had and to claim future rights. It was not an accusation submitted by Yulhee.”

He claimed that Yulhee actually had a strong chance of winning the case and would most likely be able to get her three children back sooner or later.
As a brief context, it was initially reported that the former couple mutually agreed to give custody of Minhwan to avoid stressing the three children due to the new environment. At the time, she received bitter reactions and was labeled a “bad mom.”
However, Yulhee would later reveal that she initially wanted to take them with her, but due to the financial and mental stress the family would face once a lawsuit was filed against the idol, she graciously gave up her custody and ownership shares.
But when the tables turned and she gained more public support, Yulhee finally decided to fight back.
