Choi Hyun-wook pays tribute to late actor Lee Soon-jae despite never meeting him: ‘I just wanted to see him once’

On November 25, actor Choi Hyun-wook paid a solemn visit to the funeral hall of Seoul Asan Medical Center to pay tribute to the late acting legend Lee Soon-jae, who died that day at the age of 91.

Despite never meeting the late actor in person, Choi appeared at the memorial with profound sincerity, sharing with reporters, “I just wanted to see him once. I felt so sad after hearing the news early in the morning.”

Choi, known for his humility, expressed his admiration for Lee’s legacy:

“I’ve only seen him on stage in clips from award shows. But even watching him from afar, it made my heart hurt… I hope he’s truly happy wherever he is right now.”

Lee Soon-jaea towering figure in Korean performing arts, he has had an illustrious career spanning over six decades with more than 140 film and television credits to his name. From classic dramas like Hey Joon, Love is everywhereAND High kickto stage plays until the late 1980s, he remained active and passionate about acting until the end.

In addition to acting, Lee has also held public office as a member of the 14th National Assembly, adding statesmanship to his impressive resume.

Since the announcement of his passing, condolences have poured in from all sectors. Celebrities such as Lee Seung-gi, veteran actor Jang Yong and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon all visited the mourning site to honor the late icon.

Lee’s funeral service is scheduled for 6:20 a.m. on Nov. 27, with burial taking place at Eden Paradise in Icheon.
