Chaebol heiress Hwang Ha Na arrested on drug charges after fleeing Southeast Asia

According to a Dec. 24 MBN report, Hwang Ha Na, the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, who had been the subject of an Interpol red notice for purchasing and using methamphetamine, entered South Korea around 7:50 a.m. on a flight departing from Cambodia.

Police had already obtained an arrest warrant and reportedly executed it around 2 a.m. local time at Phnom Penh International Airport, shortly before she boarded a Korean airline flight.

The Gyeonggi Gwacheon Police Station has taken Hwang Ha Na into custody and plans to conduct a thorough investigation into all the circumstances of the case, including additional drug-related charges discovered during the investigation.

Hwang Ha Na is widely known to the public as the ex-girlfriend of singer and actor Park Yoo Chun, as well as the maternal granddaughter of the founding family of Namyang Dairy. His name has come up several times in high-profile drug scandals in recent years.

In 2019, Hwang Ha Na was convicted of purchasing and using methamphetamine together with Park Yoo Chun and received a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years. In 2020, she was again indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act and sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.

Despite these convictions, Hwang Ha Na was again charged with drugs last year. However, in mid-February, he suddenly left South Korea for Thailand. Investigators later determined that she had entered Cambodia illegally, where she continued to reside while evading authorities.

During the course of the investigation, police confirmed further criminal charges and requested an Interpol Red Notice, along with consular assistance from local diplomatic missions, to trace his whereabouts.

With his return and arrest, attention is now focused on whether Hwang will face further charges and what legal consequences could follow, marking yet another chapter in one of South Korea’s most notorious celebrity drug cases.
