In particular, the unexpected explicit sex scene in the very first episode created a lot of buzz around the show. Cha Joo Young, who had already become a hot topic for her topless scene, was once again seen in an equally bold scenario.

This new topless scene has generated even more curiosity. From during The Glory, it was revealed that Cha Joo Young’s nude scene was created in CGI, viewers have been wondering if the nude scene in The queen who crowns it was also CG. Shortly after, @style confirmed that Cha’s topless scene was indeed created with CG editing.

But the reason for the editing has sparked some controversy. On January 16, KST, Munhwa Ilbo reported that K-Drama apparently did not provide any detailed descriptions of nudity in its script. According to the report, the actors were unaware that the scene would involve such a high level of nudity until they sat down for storyboard discussions right before filming.

Since the prospect of such explicit exposure had not previously been agreed upon by the actors, the production team had to use CG editing to elevate the level of nudity, which they stressed was absolutely necessary. The media claimed that the bodies seen in the scenes were those of stunt doubles. Cha Joo young and Water dam they filmed the scenes while clothed, and the bodies of the stunt doubles were merged together with the actors’ faces in post production.

In response to the report’s claims, Kim Sang Ho, director of The queen who crownshe insisted that neither he nor the production team wanted to increase the level of nudity in the scene, but the channel itself. He also hinted that he needs to be cautious in dealing with this issue, adding: “I don’t think I can talk directly about this topic.”

When SPOTV News reached out to K-Drama representatives for a response, they told the outlet they were verifying the truth of these claims.

Meanwhile, the fourth episode of The queen who crowns recorded a national audience rating of 5.6%, maintaining first place among cable and general programming channels in its time slot. The show airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM KST onwards tvN. Two episodes are also available as a preview CLAMP every Monday at 2pm KST.
