Byun Yo-han cries and reveals that he chose “Pavane” because of his late friend Na Chul’s son

A new episode of the YouTube channel on February 20th Joogobatgo by Baek Eun-ha introduced Byun Yo-han as a guest to discuss his latest project, Pavane. During the conversation, host Baek Eun-ha shared her thoughts on the film.

He described the characters played by Moon Sang-min and Byun Yo-han as individuals whose beginnings were denied figures who question their existence and wander through life in different ways. Reflecting on a touching scene, she said it seemed mysterious and moving to see the two characters sit and stand in silence, blowing out a small candle, as if addressing the question, “Why was I born into this world?”

Suddenly overcome with emotion, Byun Yo-han’s eyes filled with tears as he confessed: “The reason I chose this project was this question. I chose it for Chul’s son,” referring to his late friend, actor Na Chul.

He continued candidly, “If I had been greedy as an actor, I honestly couldn’t have done this project. But as his closest friend and as an uncle (to his son), when I accepted this role, I wanted to show him, ‘You’re no different.’ I wanted to say, ‘This is just life.’

Byun Yo-han further explained that the topic he contemplated most deeply was the meaning of existence. “The moment our feet touch the ground in this world, we must exist. But sometimes that very sense of existence can be painful. That’s why having people who truly look up to you is so important.” he said.

He added, “The three characters look at each other. If they stop seeing each other even for a moment, they return to the starting point struggling, feeling alone, as if pulled back by elasticity. What I want to say through Pavane is that we really need to see each other. At least in this film, Kyung-rok, Mi-jung and Yo-han look at each other warmly, allowing each other to shine like light.”

Born in 1986, Na Chul has gained recognition through dramas such as Vincent, Happiness, Through the darknessand the original Waveve series Weak Hero Class 1. He died on January 21, 2023, while receiving treatment for declining health, leaving behind colleagues and fans in deep mourning.
