The organizers failed to resolve the problem in time.
The 19thth The Busan Fireworks Festival went completely haywire due to a prank organized by three teenagers.
The Busan Fireworks Festival is the city’s largest fireworks display and takes place every year in autumn along Gwangalli Beach. The festival features multiple cultural programs and events and attracts over a million visitors each year. This is such an important event for the city that this year the metropolitan government sent 6,700 municipal and police officials on the day of the event to ensure public safety.
The 2024 Busan Fireworks Festival, held on November 9 KST, was reportedly ruined due to an unexpected technical failure caused by the unauthorized entry of three teenagers into the control room. According to the organizing committee, the boys entered the control room and touched a cable connected to the light controls on the Gwangandaegyo Bridge as they were escorted out by security. This led to a miscommunication that the organizers were unable to correct during the show.
The festival’s biggest attraction is the fireworks display, which includes lights that illuminate the 7.4km-long bridge in sync. Despite the show being delayed by 10 minutes, technicians on site were unable to fix the lights.
The incident left organizers confused, who failed to resolve the situation quickly. Committee officials promised to prepare backup solutions for next year’s event.
