With great success and popularity also comes criticism and hatred. BTS‘S Jin revealed how he handles it.
He was recently a guest on episode 64 of Jang Do Yeon‘S Drip in lounge 2 to promote his upcoming solo album HAPPY. She asked him if she could call him “WWH” (Worldwide Handsome), to which he agreed. Little did he know that he was the one who originated the nickname in the first place!

Jin: A lot of people like to call me that and I’m a celebrity, so…
Jang Do Yeon: So have you ever said “I am WWH” yourself?
Jin: I created that nickname myself! “Beautiful all over the world”.
Jang Do Yeon: Is that so?
Jin: I am internationally beautiful. Of course there are many more beautiful people than me, but that doesn’t make me ugly.
Jang Do Yeon: It is true.
Jin: Because of this mentality, I think I’m beautiful too, so I confidently tell people that I am.
Later, Jin talked about his friendship with Chef Baek Jong won. He exposed some of his jealous tendencies and “cooking skills”, so Jang Do Yeon asked if this part needed to be changed. Jin states that it’s fine, revealing that they insult each other over pranks.
Jin: I respect him and trust him, so it’s good. That’s how we are. He tells me I’m ugly too!
Jang Do Yeon: With each other?
Jin: YES! I think it’s okay to attack each other about things we’re sure of.
Jang Do Yeon: It is true.
Jin explains that they only tease each other about things they are respectively sure of. For example, he doesn’t care that people tell him he’s ugly because he knows it’s a lie.

Jin: When someone tells me I’m ugly, I laugh about it. I just think, “This doesn’t make sense.”
Jang Do Yeon: What you have is a strong shield. That person looks in the mirror and gets sad.
Jin: I know people are joking when they call me ugly.
Jang Do Yeon: You have such a healthy mindset.
Later, Jin also revealed how he handles negative comments or unexpected situations. He thinks his mentality is his greatest strength now. After discharge, Jin was able to answer everything with: “It’s okay because I’m a superstar.”

Jin: When something unexpected happens, I just think, “It’s obvious, because I’m a superstar!” I started thinking this way after I got discharged from the Army. Every time I hear something, I say, “It’s definitely going to happen because I’m a superstar.”
Jang Do Yeon: Is there a reason why you started thinking this way or did you find the solution on your own?
Jin: I said it out loud once and realized it was a good resolution. So whenever I heard something negative, I routinely said, “It’s okay because I’m a superstar.” And I ended up thinking that it was nothing after all.
Jin really has such a healthy mindset! We could all learn something from him.
