BTS’ Jin Clears Up Viral Misinformation About Himself

Misinformation is rampant, especially within fandoms. Now, BTS‘S Jin is clearing up some misinformation about himself.

He was recently a guest on episode 64 of Jang Do Yeon‘S Drip in lounge 2 to promote his upcoming solo album HAPPY.

During the episode, Jin revealed how he responds to hate and negativity. One answer is: “It’s okay because I’m a superstar.”

Jin: When something unexpected happens, I just think, “It’s obvious why I’m a superstar!” I started thinking this way after I got discharged from the Army. Every time I hear something, I say, “It’s definitely going to happen because I’m a superstar.”

Jang Do Yeon: Is there a reason why you started thinking this way or did you find the solution on your own?

Jin: I said it out loud once and realized it was a good resolution. So whenever I heard something negative, I routinely said, “It’s okay because I’m a superstar.” And I ended up thinking that it was nothing after all.

Jang Do Yeon then confronted Jin, telling a story he heard. He had heard him talking like that for a long time, but Jin claimed it wasn’t true.

Jang Do Yeon: Although you said that you have changed a lot after your debut, but I heard that when you were in college, your professor once asked you: “I heard that there is an idol in this class?” And you said, “You don’t know me, do you? I’ll come back when I’m famous.”

Jin: I’ve heard about it too, but there’s a little misunderstanding. I’ve never said anything like that.

Jang Do Yeon: Oh really?

Jin: Since I’m a superstar, people like to exaggerate things.

Jang Do Yeon: It is true. People love heroes.

Jin and Jang Do Yeon realized that, like in the game of telephone, Jin’s words changed with each telling of what had really happened.

Jin: I would have said, “Hi, I’m JIN from BTS.” “Not many people would know me yet because I’m not famous.” “But I’m JIN from BTS. Nice to meet you all.”

Jang Do Yeon: And they probably added, “I’ll come back when I’m famous.”

Then, Jang Do Yeon brought up another story that Jin had to clarify again. Previously, photos with tourists of Jin before his debut went viral, with people claiming that Jin knew he would debut by taking photos with people before becoming famous.

Jang Do Yeon: Why did you take photos with tourists before debuting?

Jin: I didn’t take photos with them!

Jang Do Yeon: What happened then? Did people make up this superhero story too? People said things like, “He knew he was going to debut. He predicted that he would have fans all over the world.”

Jin: You’re not going to use that photo as a reference, are you?

Jang Do Yeon: What do you think? What happened? It was before your debut.

Jin explained that the tourists simply wanted to take photos with a Korean. However, Jang Do Yeon believes that the tourists saw Jin’s star potential, so they asked him.

Jin: I think I was at the Jeonju International Film Festival with my classmates from the Film and Film Department. When I was there, some tourists came up to me and wanted a photo with me, a Korean.

Jang Do Yeon: Did they just want a photo with a Korean?

Jin: Other people may have asked this too. But since I became famous, only the photo they took with me went viral.

Jang Do Yeon: Or maybe they asked you because they thought you were an actor?

Jin: If you look at the photo, I didn’t look like one.

Jang Do Yeon: There’s no way! You looked the same!

Jin: Have you seen it?

Jang Do Yeon: Yes, I did!

Jin: I think I wore my high school gym clothes because I didn’t have many clothes.

Jang Do Yeon: But they still asked for a photo?

Jin: Yes, they did. When someone asks to take a photo with you, there’s no reason to say no.

Jang Do Yeon: So you did it?

Jin: So I did. But at some point it suddenly went viral years after I debuted.

Jang Do Yeon: They probably asked you because you seemed unusual. They wouldn’t have asked you just because you’re Korean. You basically represented Korea.
