Currently, BTS fans (aka ARMY) are actively pushing the hashtag “MinHeeJin OUT” to the top of search rankings to protest Min Hee Jin’s reinstatement to ADOR. It is ranked 2nd and 9th in the US, 2nd in Canada, 3rd in Germany, 5th in Australia, 10th in France, and 4th in the Netherlands. Fans are even collecting signatures to start an international petition.
The movement was joined not only by BTS fans, but also by some international fans of LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT.
Previously, after Jungkook (BTS) subtly expressed his support for NewJeans and suggested that young artists shouldn’t be used as shields, some HYBE staff members took to Blind (a community platform for employees) to vent their frustrations, even calling Jungkook “THE BIGGEST IDIOT.”
While this global boycott against Min HeeJin may not have a significant impact on public opinion in South Korea, it is expected that her career as a producer may effectively end.
Regardless of whether he launches a new boy group or girl group, or continues to manage NewJeans, it is predictable that ARMYs around the world will boycott all of his works because of the “Min HeeJin” label.
Min HeeJin has essentially become a symbol of failure in the international market. It remains to be seen whether she can gain support and investment from outside sources. The unprecedented unity of global ARMYs in boycotting Min Hee Jin is truly astonishing.
