The film “The Hidden Face” (directed by Kim Dae-woo), released on November 20, quickly attracted attention for its bold direction. Now revealed, its contents have sparked intense reactions from the public.
“The Hidden Face” follows Seong-jin (played by Song Seung-heon) as he searches for his missing girlfriend Soo-yeon (played by Cho Yeo-jeong). The plot thickens when Soo-yeon’s young Mi-joo (played by Park Ji-hyun) enters the scene, leading to the revelation that Soo-yeon is trapped in a hidden space nearby, exposing harsh truths in this intense thriller.
Even before its release, the film attracted attention due to Park Ji-hyun and Song Seung-heon’s racy full-frontal nude scenes.
Song Seung-heon revealed that he endured a strict diet of only water and nuts for three weeks to prepare for scenes in bed, while Park Ji-hyun shared his thoughts on performing bold scenes of exposure for the first time since its debut.
After the film’s highly anticipated release, audiences praised the layered narrative, the actors’ outstanding performances, and especially Park Ji-hyun’s transformation.
Viewers expressed their shock with reactions such as: “Park Ji-hyun’s acting is crazy“, “19+? I can’t remember anything other than how amazing it was” AND “You enter the theater as one person and leave as another.” Others commented: “Did I really watch it?“, “The ending was mind-blowing” and “Now I understand why Park Ji-hyun was so passionate about this role.”
Park Ji-hyun shared his thoughts on the exposure in an interview with Xports News. He said: “Playing scenes with exposition wasn’t nerve-wracking for me. In the scene where Mi-joo seduces Seong-jin in front of Soo-yeon, exposition wasn’t the focus. When I select projects, I imagine the scenes in advance and, because of this, I felt the direction made sense. The director shared similar thoughts and I agreed with him.“
Park Ji-hyun, known for her role as Mo Hyun-min in the drama “Reborn Rich,” revealed that the filming schedules of her drama and “The Hidden Face” overlapped, further surprising the audience.
Having gained fame through drama, Park Ji-hyun addressed concerns about taking on a bold role with exposure, “I think it was better to do it after getting some recognition. It means more people will notice. I don’t think exposure is just for beginners. No matter when this project came to mind, I would have chosen it. Whether I was more or less famous I would have made the same choice, but I think being more recognized means the work will receive more attention.”
After seeing the film, audiences echoed this sentiment, saying, “Now we understand Park Ji-hyun’s interviews perfectly.”
