An inspiration or simply the fashion cycle?
BLACKPINK member Jenny is gearing up for his solo comeback with new single, “MANTRA.”
On September 29, KST, Jennie’s self-taught agency, STRANGE ATELIER, dropped a teaser of the song via his YouTube channel, creating huge buzz and anticipation.
But Jennie’s style in the teaser has caused some speculation that she took inspiration from the first-generation K-Pop icon, Lee Hyori.
After a post on Instit went viral, pointing out this similarity, many netizens agreed that Jennie’s teaser reminded them of Lee Hyori. For some, it was reminiscent of the “10 Minutes” era, while others thought it was similar to the style of “U Go Girl.” Some, however, thought that Jennie wasn’t specifically inspired by Lee Hyori, but rather by the return of the retro fashion trend. Some also openly accused the BLACKPINK member of copying Lee.
- “I didn’t think about it that way, but now that you told me about it, it seems similar. I guess we’ll have to see more to find out.
- “If you’re talking about clothes, though, it’s a very famous fashion trend.”
- “For a moment, I thought it was Lee Hyori in the photo on the left.”
- “Wow, are you telling me that’s not Lee Hyori on the left?”
- “It’s a bit much to compare her to Lee Hyori, LOL. If Lee Hyori was active now with her usual popularity, she would probably take over BLACKPINK as a solo artist.
- “To be honest, it seems like I’m copying her a lot, LOL.”
- “Isn’t he just curating such an image??? We could say he’s trying to bring the Lee Hyori vibe. If it fits well, then what’s the problem?
– “I agree. Why is everyone so angry…?”
