“Black Out” with Byun Yo Han: A Gripping Police Drama That Deserves More Recognition

Blackout premiered its first episode on August 16 with a modest 2.8% rating. Since then, it has skyrocketed to a new record high of 6.4%, earning rave reviews for its gripping writing and strong acting. However, it wasn’t until the drama had been airing for a while that it started to gain significant attention.

Adapted from a best-selling German crime novel, Blackout follows a young man who is wrongly accused of murder in a mysterious case. After spending 10 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, he starts over and is determined to clear his name.

Lead actor Byun Yo Han plays Goh Jeong Woo, a student with a promising future who unexpectedly becomes a suspect in a murder case involving his two classmates. Despite Jeong Woo’s continued denials, memory loss of the events, and the missing bodies, he is quickly sentenced to 10 years in prison. After his release and returning to his hometown, Jeong Woo discovers that his mother has fallen off a bridge and is in critical condition.

The series is full of unpredictable twists and complex, shocking details that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Blackout keeps the audience on the edge of their seats and deeply involved in the mystery, as they try to discover who the real culprit is.

Despite this, Blackout has had a hard time reaching a wider audience, as crime K-dramas often have a more niche appeal, especially when competing with another heavyweight like Good partner in the same time frame. However, the solid writing and powerful performances of the actors have helped the show’s reputation gradually grow.

A key factor in the drama’s success is Byun Yo Han’s performance. Known for his great acting skills, he has never disappointed viewers. Although he has been nominated for prestigious awards such as the Baeksang and Blue Dragon, he has yet to win the Best Actor on TV award. His outstanding performance in Blackout has led many viewers to hope that it will finally receive the recognition it deserves.

Audience Reactions:
