On November 11, 2024, the news Hankyore acquired two reports: one entitled “Belift Lab’s New Girl Group Plan (ILLIT)” and another called “2021 Team Launch Plan (NewJeans)”, via a report. Despite a three-year gap between the two groups, the reports featured strikingly similar designs and keywords, reigniting suspicions of plagiarism.
According to Hankyeore, the two reports appeared to use the same template, with similar designs. However, this was not a standard or company-wide model. Min Hee Jin had previously stated in May 2020 that he personally designed the graphics for his report using Keynote during his time as MOVESBrand Director of. Hankyeore confirmed that while HYBE offers report and presentation templates, these are customized for each label. Not only were the projects similar, but the reports also used similar keywords. To name one, New Jeans‘ report proposed to market a “sense of kinship (dongjilgam)” AND “sense of desire (donggyungshim)” to differentiate NewJeans from other artists.
ILLIT similarly chose the keywords for sense of kinship and sense of longing in Korean. They also reflected”influence on lifestyle” as related.
When the suspicions came to the fore again, netizens became angry with HYBE and Belift Lab.
- This is similar to copying fragments of a thesis and rearranging them. But they really stole it without any conscience.
