According to SBS News on December 26, Hwang Ha-na voluntarily entered South Korea through Incheon International Airport after staying in Cambodia. During the warrant review hearing that day, he reportedly told the court as much giving birth led her to end her life in hiding.
Hwang Ha-na stated in court, “I recently gave birth to a baby in Cambodia. I decided to return to Korea because I want to take responsibility and raise my son properly.” It was confirmed that the newborn and the child’s biological father, identified as a man who accompanied her on the return flight, entered Korea with her.
However, Hwang Ha-na has firmly denied the drug-related charges. He stated, “I have not used methamphetamine, nor have I encouraged or provided it to others,” fully rejecting the accusations made against her.
Hwang Ha-na is suspected of giving methamphetamine to two acquaintances in Seoul’s Gangnam district in July last year. In December, as the investigation intensified, she fled Thailand to avoid being summoned by the police. After repeated failures to secure his cooperation, authorities stepped up their efforts by requesting an Interpol Blue Notice in May and invalidating his passport.
Investigations later revealed that Hwang Ha-na had entered Cambodia illegally via Thailand and remained in hiding there. In October, reports emerged that she was staying at a luxury residential complex in Phnom Penh and was pregnant. Her partner at the time, identified as Mr Kim, an individual who worked in mergers and acquisitions, was believed to have helped her escape and stay abroad.
Eventually, Hwang Ha-na’s legal representatives contacted the police to express his intention to surrender. Korean authorities then sent investigators to Cambodia, where they executed an arrest warrant aboard a Korea-bound plane at Phnom Penh International Airport.
With Hwang Ha-na now in custody, police intend to resume an in-depth investigation into her alleged drug use, potential suppliers and whether she carried out further illegal activities during her time abroad.
Hwang Ha-na first attracted public attention years ago as the ex-girlfriend of a singer-actor. However, after their breakup, she repeatedly became embroiled in drug-related scandals. In 2019, she received a suspended sentence for methamphetamine use, but violated probation and was subsequently sentenced to one year and eight months in prison in 2022.
After his release, Hwang Ha-na publicly vowed to never return to drugs. Now, with the new accusations, the international escapes and the discovery of the birth, public sentiment remains deeply skeptical.
As the investigation continues, attention remains focused on whether Hwang Ha-na’s latest claims will affect the legal outcome or whether her troubled past will ultimately overshadow her attempt at a new beginning.
