Bangkok’s iconic CentralWorld shopping complex just gave Asia one of the most hilarious and creative festive moments of the year: a “haunted Christmas tree” that looks like a giant smiling ghost.
Since October 22, the mall’s main square has been transformed into a bright Halloween wonderland with the theme “Spooky Boo”, marking the start of the Thai festive season with a fun twist.
Standing over 40 meters tall, the installation is draped in an enormous white cloth, complete with large, cartoonish eyes and a playful smile. The result? A tree that looks like it came straight from a Tim Burton movie: part disturbing, part adorable.
Locals call it “Southeast Asia’s biggest ghost” and photos of the project quickly went viral across all social media platforms.
According to The Standard, the CentralWorld team wanted to create a one-of-a-kind attraction that combined two beloved celebrations – Halloween and Christmas – into one whimsical experience.
“We wanted to bring joy, humor and a sense of wonder to the holiday season,” a CentralWorld representative said. “Spooky Boo” is meant to be fun and imaginative, something people will remember.”

In addition to the viral “ghost tree,” CentralWorld hosts a variety of Halloween-themed activities for residents and tourists. The event features:
- Art exhibitions in collaboration with BKKIF (Bangkok Illustration Fair)
- Craft villages and creative workshops
- Costume parades and live Halloween musical performances
All activities will continue until October 31, transforming the mall into a lively place House of Horror for both families and revelers.
This year’s Halloween celebration follows the national theme “The house of horror: a house, all kinds of monsters.” At 13 central Thailand malls, visitors can explore immersive haunted houses inspired by both ghosts from Thai folklore and international horror icons, all reimagined with a playful, artistic twist.
Each location offers a distinct theme, inviting guests to do so “play with fear”they push beyond their comfort zones and embrace the thrill of being scared in style.
While some netizens joke about the “possessed Christmas tree,” many others praise Thailand’s clever cultural mashup. “Only Thailand could make a ghost this cute!” AND “It’s creepy, funny and festive all at the same time – pure genius!”
The Spooky Boo installation has already become Bangkok’s hottest selfie spot, proving that the Christmas spirit, haunted or not, is alive and well in Thailand.
