On November 28, NewJeans held a press conference in which it unilaterally announced the termination of the contract with ADOR and stated that it will not pay the contractual penalty.
At the same event, Hanni shared: “The lives of the five of us are in danger. We have had many discussions and we all agree that this is the best course of action.”
According to the female idol, NewJeans’ parents are all very supportive of their decision.
“Although I find it absurd to have to face such situations, we will not hide them or avoid them. There’s no need. We intend to terminate our contract with the hope of working freely, comfortably and happily in the future.”he added.
Additionally, Minji spoke about the courage that inspired their decision, stating: “Mindset is crucial. Courageous individuals can change the world and live their lives on their own terms. Not everyone has the courage to act on their beliefs without calculating their limits. For me, this was possible thanks to the support of our fans, the Bunnies and my colleagues. I also gained great courage from watching Min Hee-jin.”
He continued, “During the time I worked with her, I saw how dedicated she was, always surrounded by talented people. He once said, “I want to set a precedent,” and this statement resonated deeply with me. It gave me strength. It’s not easy for someone to uphold their principles while risking so much in life. If you don’t take responsibility for your issues, no one else will. That’s why the five of us decided to create this moment today.”
Minji concluded, “We know that challenges lie ahead and we cannot predict what obstacles will come our way. But the five of us are determined to come together, embrace the journey and take on new adventures. We hope that your support and understanding will continue on our journey. Whether at school or at work, everyone deserves a harassment-free environment where mutual respect prevails.”
Responding to NewJeans’ unilateral departure, ADOR has since responded that the company did not violate any clauses of their contracts, and therefore the girl group’s departure is invalid. They also express their hope to continue working with NewJeans.
On the other hand, NewJeans had already sent a notification to ADOR on November 13, outlining potential contract termination and listing requests.
ADOR, after receiving the notification on November 14, responded that it would work to “resolve the matter wisely.”
