Recently, the renowned magazine Forbes published an article titled: “Blackpink’s Lisa has now racked up as many UK hits as all her bandmates combined.”
In the article, Forbes opens with high praise for Lisa: “Blackpink star Lisa is on a roll in the UK. In the past few weeks alone, the singer has scored a pair of new hits with the only two tracks she has released as part of the latest era of her solo career. With the debut of her latest track, she has further distanced herself from all the other members of the band that have made her a household name in so many parts of the world.”
Analyzing Lisa’s results in the UK market, Forbes reports: “‘New Woman’ is a musical collaboration between Lisa and Latin artist Rosalía. This highly anticipated collaboration propelled both women into the UK Official Songs Chart at No. 55.
With the appearance of ‘New Woman’ on the UK Singles Chart, Lisa has made history. The song marks her fourth appearance on the chart as a solo artist, continuing to top all other K-pop solo artists.
In fact, with four entries in the UK song charts, Lisa now has as many hits as the other three BLACKPINK members combined.”
Forbes also talked about the successes of Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé: “Among the female members of the band, Jennie is the only other member to appear in the UK Songs Chart more than once. She debuted on the chart in October 2023 with her “You & Me”, which remained a top 40 hit. The following month, she joined The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp on the track “One of the Girls”, which eventually climbed to No. 21.”
“Both Jisoo and Rosé have only had one single hit. Between them, Rosé reached No. 1 on the charts, in 2021. That year, her track “On The Ground” opened and stopped at No. 43. Last year, Jisoo’s “Flower” reached the top 40, climbing all the way to No. 38.”
Towards the end of the article, Forbes continued to praise Lisa’s solo music, noting that both of her latest songs have reached high positions in the UK charts: “‘New Woman’ is a huge hit in the UK, not only appearing on a major chart but also selling significantly in the country. Lisa’s ‘New Woman’ debuted on four charts, reaching the top 10 on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts, while also simultaneously debuting on the Official Streaming chart.”
“Last month, Lisa debuted her solo track ‘Rockstar’ at No. 49 on the heavily-watched singles chart. She made her name as a solo artist in the UK in 2021, when both ‘Lalisa’ and ‘Money’ hit the charts, with the latter spending two months almost climbing into the top 40.”
Most recently, Lisa received four nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards for her hit song ‘ROCKSTAR’. The nominations include Best K-pop Song, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, and Best Editing. With these categories, Lisa has become the most nominated K-pop solo artist.
At the 2024 VMAs, Lisa will also become the first K-pop solo artist to perform at the event. Fans are currently voting fervently, hoping she makes history just like she did at the 2022 VMAs.
