For many male K-Pop idols, enlisting will happen at some point in their career. While it can happen at any time, most idols will delay their enlistment as late as possible before starting their service to continue their work.
However, recently, a member of Ship 97’s friend group suggested enlisting earlier than expected.
The ’97-liners are a group of male K-Pop idols born in 1997 and are friends. The group understands BTS‘S Jungkook, STAR‘S Cha Eunwoo, GOT7‘S Yugyeom AND BamBam, SEVENTEEN‘S MingyuAND NCT‘S Jaehyun.
Many idols born in 1995 have enlisted this year, and it is believed that many born in 1996 will enlist in 2025 and those born in 1997 will enlist in 2026. Despite this timing, more than one 97-liner has begun service ahead of schedule.
Jungkook enlisted in December 2023 and will be released in 2025.
NCT’s Jaehyun also enlisted earlier than many fans expected due to supposed age restrictions for joining the military band.
Now, it looks like they’re GOT7 Yugyeom he may be next to begin his service.
Since the departure of GOT7 from JYP entertainment in 2021 the group has predominantly focused on solo activities, partly due to the enlistment of members Jay B AND Jinyoung.
Yugyeom is currently in his 2024 Trusted Tours and has so far traveled to locations in Asia and Australia.
On November 1st the idol performed in Sydney, Australia, where he surprised fans during a moment of the show. While speaking, Yugyeom promised that he will return for another performance, saying it will probably be in two years”because you know, in Korea”, which seems to allude to enlistment.

As a liner 97, Yugyeom’s enlistment would not occur until 2026, meaning that if he managed to return within two years, he would begin his service earlier than expected. An early enlistment also seems likely for many fans, as GOT7’s Youngjae is expected to start his next year.
