After “Supernova”, aespa releases a new divisive song

Their fifth mini-album, “Whiplash”, will be released on October 21st. The album focuses on the theme: “The empowered ‘me’ becomes the ‘game changer’ that opens up new worlds,” which shows the confident and easy charm of aespa.

As the new album follows the huge success of “Supernova,” which dominated the charts earlier this year, public anticipation is high.

For the first time since their debut, aespa dives into the EDM-based techno genre with the title track “Whiplash.”

Choi Sung-woo, general manager of SM ONE PRODUCTION, said: “We wanted to showcase aespa’s evolving musical style. While it’s not as mainstream as “Supernova” and may evoke mixed reactions, it’s an attempt to layer Aespa’s distinct color onto an EDM foundation, something they’ve never done before.

He added: “The members and staff were on the same page in wanting to repay the love their latest album received with something fresh. We hope people react with comments like: “Aespa can do it too” or “Who else but Aespa could do it?”

aespa is currently in the midst of their second world tour, *SYNK: PARALLEL LINE*, which kicked off in Seoul last June. They toured throughout Asia and Australia, with stops in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia and Australia. Next year they will expand the tour to North America and Europe, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.
