The Hole is an adaptation of the 2016 novel by Korean author Pyun Hye-young. The story follows a professor studying in Korea who, after losing his wife in a car accident, becomes paralyzed from the waist down and trapped in a life of reflection on his past and present. The novel, which won the Shirley Jackson Award for Thriller, Mystery and Horror, was also named one of Time the best thrillers of the year 2017 according to the magazine.
In the film adaptation, Jung Ho-yeon will play Sandy, the wife of Theo James’ character. Filming on the film, which begins shooting early next year, will require Jung to perform in both Korean and English, as the story spans both Korea and the United States.
