K-pop girl group aespa demonstrated their impact on the music scene with “Supernova.”
On December 2, NME officially announced its list of the “50 Best Songs of 2024”, which ranked the most popular and successful music releases in 2024. The ranking included songs from artists around the world, and some K-songs were mentioned pop.
The chart included K-pop artists like Rosé for her viral duet with Bruno Mars on “APT.” (No. 14), ILLIT for breakthrough bop “Magnetic” (No. 27), KATSEYE for pop debut “Touch” (No. 43) and KISS OF LIFE for its sensational comeback, “Sticky” (No. 46 ). However, aespa was the only K-pop group that managed to reach the Top 10.
Placing at No. 9, aespa’s hit track “Supernova” earned the spot. The outlet recalled how the song caught the attention of NASA, which supported the quartet’s song. The song also affirmed the girl group’s abilities in crossing “uncharted territories” through the music scene.
“Supernova” is the pre-release track of the group’s first studio album “Armageddon”, released on May 13th.
With aespa taking over the chart, the group also managed to secure the top spot as the No. 1 K-pop song. 1 on the NME list.
