They want to prevent them from carrying out independent activities without their approval.
I LOVE IT recently filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court against New Jeans TO “preserve the agency’s status and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts.”
On January 13, ADOR released an official statement to prevent them from signing advertising contracts without their approval and to avoid harm to third parties as members unilaterally terminated their exclusivity contracts.
Below is the official press release.
“Last week, ADOR petitioned the Seoul District Court for an injunction to preserve the agency’s status and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts against members of NewJeans.
This injunction recognizes that ADOR is the exclusive contracting company until the first trial verdict is delivered in the case filed on December 3 of last year. This is also to prevent members from independently signing advertising contracts and carrying out advertising activities without the approval of ADOR.
We filed this injunction to avoid confusion for third parties, such as advertisers, as members unilaterally declared termination of their exclusivity contracts and continued to attempt to contact advertisers.
The members’ unilateral claims to terminate the exclusivity contract will be confirmed as unjust by the previous lawsuit brought on the validity of the contract. However, as the case may take some time, we have inevitably filed an additional injunction to avoid confusion.
This injunction also reflects ADOR’s intent to continue working with NewJeans. If confusion and harm continue in the industry due to members’ actions, the company’s brand value will decline, losing its competitiveness in the industry. Even if the ruling subsequently confirms the validity of the contract, it may not be possible to compensate for the damage already done.
In the appeal, ADOR challenged this provision “There should be an opportunity to correct erroneous judgments before the group’s legal liability expands.” They also revealed the concern of the entire industry “If a precedent is set that groups can unilaterally terminate contracts and engage in independent activities without legal procedures, the incentive to invest in the entertainment industry will diminish, shaking up the K-Pop industry.”
ADOR has been and will continue to support the activities of NewJeans according to the validity of the exclusivity contract. ADOR has also received offers for projects and advertisements and is planning this year’s activities, including albums and fan meetings. They wish to communicate with the members of NewJeans.”
Previously, NewJens released an official statement announcing the termination of exclusive contracts with ADOR.
