NewJeans’ exit from ADOR has led to a new development by the agency, which has filed a lawsuit to test the validity of the group’s contract with the company.
On December 5, ADOR filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District Court to test the validity of the group’s exclusive contract. The ADOR stated that the decision was taken to highlight that the contract cannot be terminated lightly on the basis of unilateral claims.
The agency sought the court’s help in maintaining the foundations of the K-pop industry, which the company claims was created and flourished thanks to healthy communication between idols and their companies.
“We are saddened to share this news, but this is to prevent any misunderstanding artists may have regarding the legality of contract termination, which could also lead to actions that violate their existing contract and cause unwanted harm and confusion among stakeholders .”
ADOR also highlighted the importance of the milestone agreement between the company and NewJeans.
“If this landmark agreement is not reached, the company’s efforts to endure uncertainty and establish full confidence in the form of investments will be rendered ineffective,” he said.
The agency continued: “In other words, we are concerned that it is no longer possible to expect systematic support and investment.”
Furthermore, ADOR shared that although the agency has not yet had the opportunity to communicate with NewJeans, it assured that it would do its best to resolve any misunderstanding with the group.
