Actress Park Bo-mi opens up about the heartbreaking loss of her 15-month-old son

On October 28 (KST), actress Park Bo-mi appeared with her husband, former professional footballer Park Yo-han, on the program TV Chosun plan Our baby was born again. During the episode, the couple courageously revisited the painful memory of their son Simon, who passed away two years ago.

At the time of filming, Park Bo-mi was 34 weeks pregnant with her second child. Despite his emotional wounds, he spoke with remarkable composure, describing Simon as a source of pride rather than pain.

“Of course, it’s difficult and sad” he said, smiling through his tears. “But we’re proud of Simon. He’s a kid we want to brag about.”

Park Bo-mi remembered the day before her son’s death as completely normal. “He played happily with his friends, ate well and laughed a lot,” he remembered.

But early in the morning, Simon suddenly developed a fever. Believing it was only a mild symptom, Park Bo-mi gave him fever medicine and he seemed to recover. Her husband, Park Yo-han, was away at a soccer tournament in Namhae at the time.

Later that morning, Simon’s face flushed again. Park Bo-mi decided to take him to a nearby pediatrician, but with 23 patients ahead and high risks of COVID-19, he chose to visit a hospital instead. Along the way, as a neighbor helped guide them, Simon suddenly stiffened and went limp in his arms.

“I had the feeling he was gone” Park Bo-mi confessed, bursting into tears. “When we got to the emergency room, I called my husband and my mother. I told them, ‘I think Simon is dead. He’s not waking up.'”

Park Yo-han, recalling that moment, said he was about to start his match when his wife called out something she rarely did during matches.

“He said Simon wasn’t breathing. I couldn’t believe it.” he said calmly.

Doctors desperately tried to revive Simon. He remained in cardiac arrest for 40 minutes before his heart started beating again. For a fleeting moment there was hope, but tests revealed no brain activity.

Simon was moved to intensive care, where he has remained for the last week.

“I think Simon’s heart started beating again just to give us a little more time with him,” Park Bo-mi said softly.

After the tragedy, Park Bo-mi and Park Yo-han openly expressed their grief, hoping to bring comfort to parents who have faced similar losses. Their willingness to speak publicly about such pain has touched countless viewers, many of whom have flooded social media with messages of support and empathy.

Despite the pain, there was also a glimmer of new life. On October 2, Park Bo-mi gave birth to the couple’s second child, a healthy baby girl.

“Our little princess arrived at 12.05pm, weighing 3.69kg,” Park Bo-mi wrote on Instagram, adding, “Grateful, grateful and more grateful.”

Park Bo-mi’s story serves as a reminder of a mother’s enduring love and the strength needed to continue living after an unimaginable loss. Through his words, he not only honored Simon’s memory, but also gave hope to parents walking the same painful path.

As he put it best: “Simon will always be part of us. He taught us the love that never dies.”
