South Korean actress and former After School member Nana is being countersued for attempted murder by the man she subdued during a home invasion in November 2025, her agency Sublime confirmed on January 2, 2026.
The suspect, a man in his thirties identified only as A, filed the counter-complaint from detention, accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault despite the police having already deemed his actions to be self-defense. The intruder was arrested on November 15, 2025, after breaking into Nana’s residence in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, using a ladder to enter from the veranda while carrying a knife.
According to police reports, the suspect threatened Nana’s mother with a gun and demanded money, choking her until she briefly lost consciousness. Nana, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, woke up to her mother’s screams and together they subdued the intruder, who suffered a 7cm laceration to his jaw during the struggle. Both women were injured in the collision, and Nana’s mother had to be hospitalized for strangulation injuries MSN.
The Guri police station concluded in November that Nana’s response was within the bounds of self-defense. “The level of force used does not amount to excessive or serious injury to the suspect,” an official said, adding that no criminal charges will be filed against Nana or her mother.
The suspect initially confessed to the crime, but later recanted his statement during police interrogation, claiming that he was unarmed and had not injured the victims. In letters sent from prison to JTBC’s “Crime Chief” program, the man claimed that Nana’s team had offered him 40 million Korean won (about $27,700) to testify that he had entered with a weapon, and claimed that Nana had tried to stab him. He claimed his motive was to get money for his mother’s medical expenses.
Sublime has strongly denied these allegations. “Claims regarding medical bills, financial proposals or gun deals are completely false,” he said Korea Times reported. Instead, the perpetrator asked us not to report him to the police,” the agency said. The label condemned the suspect for exploiting Nana’s celebrity status and causing “secondary harm” without showing remorse.
The agency announced that it will pursue all available civil and criminal legal actions against the suspect. Nana initially considered leniency due to the suspect’s young age, but changed course after learning of the countersuit.
On social media, Nana addressed supporters directly. “I’ve known about the counter-cause for a while now. Luckily, after spending time alone, I’ve regained my stability and feel stronger,” she wrote, assuring fans that she would “resolve the issue properly” and remain adamant.
The police confirmed that they will look into the case according to protocol as a formal complaint has been made, even though self-defense has already been established, as per Koreaboo.
