According to a report from Sports Kyunghyang on January 18, Woo Chang Soo died on January 16 at the age of 51 after a period of illness.
It was confirmed that funeral procedures had already been completed and the late actor was buried at the Seoul Metropolitan Crematorium. Although details of his condition have not been made public, it is known that he was receiving treatment recently.
Born in 1975, Woo Chang Soo graduated from the Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment at Suwon Science College. He has made a name for himself in the theater and music scene through works such as the musical Welcome to my world and the game Blue Spring. In addition to acting, he has demonstrated considerable versatility by taking on writing and directing roles, particularly for theater production I’ll stand.
Woo has also served as artistic director for productions including Palchungi AND Yurim restaurantand led the New World theater company, later working as artistic director of the Whistle Company. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to revitalizing small theater performances and cultivating experimental theater works.
In addition to his creative activities, Woo Chang Soo was deeply committed to education. As a professor at Seoul Hoseo Art College, he played an important role in mentoring and training aspiring actors, earning respect as both an artist and a teacher.
Following news of his passing, a rumor resurfaced from his personal social media account, adding to the public’s sense of loss. About two weeks earlier, he had written, “I need to take care of myself. Chang Soo, stay focused,” reflecting a silent determination to continue living fully. The post has since moved colleagues and fans, who now share heartfelt tributes and condolences in his memory.
Woo Chang Soo is remembered not only for his contributions to theater and musicals, but also for his passion for education and unwavering dedication to the stage. His absence leaves a deep void in Korea’s small theater and performing arts community.
