Accident at Super Junior concert: barrier collapse leaves 3 fans injured, SM apologizes

In the early hours of April 6, SM Entertainment released an official statement saying: “An accident occurred during the day SUPER JUNIOR ‘SUPER SHOW 10’ SJ – CORE 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR in SEOUL concert held on April 5th”.

The accident occurred during the final song of the encore stage. While performing near the extended stage, member Ryeowook extended his hand to greet the fans. At that moment, some members of the public reached over the barrier and the temporary safety fence installed near the seating area gave way, causing several people to fall.

As a result, three members of the public fell and suffered injuries. They were immediately taken to hospital for treatment. Medical staff said the victims suffered sprains and bruises and would need about two weeks of rest and recovery.

Ryeowook, who witnessed the incident firsthand, appeared visibly shocked, holding his head in pain. He was later told that he was unable to participate in the final round. Footage of the scene captured the alarming moment, leaving many viewers worried.

SM Entertainment said: “We sincerely apologize to those affected and their families.” adding, “We will provide full support to the injured and do our best to ensure their full recovery.” The agency also underlined its responsibility as organizer of the concert and promised to strengthen security checks and audience management to prevent similar incidents in the future.

However, criticism has emerged that the structure involved would be a temporary installation rather than an official security barrier. There are also concerns that staff on site were not adequately deployed to handle the situation, raising questions about the overall safety protocols at the event.
