In the last episode of “Zzanbro”, a YouTube channel show hosted by the comedian Shin Dong Yesactor Lee Yi Kyung was invited to share a story about the opposition he faced back home when he made his debut in Korean entertainment.
Lee Yi Kyung made his directorial debut in 2012 as Tae Joon Lee Song Hee Ilit’s K-Movie White Night. The film, one of three queer-themed films from the director best known for his 2006 film No regretsfollows the story of Tae Joon’s passionate one-night stand with a flight attendant who lands in Korea for the first time in two years.
That said, Lee Yi Kyung revealed that his father was absolutely stunned by the plot of White Night.
I was making a queer-themed film without telling my parents. So when my dad found out and read the part of the script where my character was having sex with another man, it was absolute chaos.

After learning of the strange persona that Lee Yi Kyung had taken on, the actor’s father, well known to fans as a high-level executive in LG conglomerate—asked Lee Yi Kyung to do it “Drop everything and go home.”
He called me while I was on set and asked if I would be in a movie called White Night. He told me to drop everything and go home… He was willing to cover all the costs to stop production.

Lee Yi Kyung didn’t reveal much about the confrontation that followed, but mentioned that he stood up for himself, telling his father that he was a grown man who had even completed his military duty. Considering how his acting career has grown White NightLee Yi Kyung must have successfully convinced his parents to let him pursue his dream!
