KBS 2TV’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Face Me” showcases the unlikely alliance between a plastic surgeon and a violent crime detective. Viewers are already hooked, calling it the drama they’ve been waiting for.
Drama “Face Me”, tense development from the first episode
KBS 2TV’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Face Me,” which premiered Nov. 6, started with a viewership rate of 3.3%. The series tells the story of plastic surgeon Cha Jung-woo (played by Lee Min-ki) and violent crime detective Lee Min-hyung (played by Han Ji-hyun) as they pursue the truth of cases through reconstructive plastic surgery on victims. The first episode begins with an undercover operation to catch con artist Park Mi-soon (played by Kim Yeo-jin), ramping up the tension.
Lee Min-hyung carefully watches Park Mi-soon during the undercover operation. However, he fails to recognize her as a criminal due to her face altered by plastic surgery. Park Mi-soon is a scammer who pretended to be in a romantic relationship to defraud five men, extorting 450 million won in the form of a loan.
At this point, Park Mi-soon approaches Cha Jung-woo as her next target. However, Jung-woo immediately recognizes the signs of a failed surgery on his face. Realizing that Min-hyung is looking at a wanted poster with his face on it, Mi-soon notices that she is being chased by a detective and attempts to escape. Min-hyung quickly understands and captures Mi-soon to wrap up the case.
Jung-woo’s clinic, the center of accidents
At KSH Plastic Surgery, where Jung-woo works, various patients are seen, resulting in accidents. One of these patients, Nam Hyo-joo (played by Choi Jung-un), arrives with her guardian Nam Ki-taek (played by Park Wan-kyu) seeking reconstructive surgery for the burns on her face. Jung-woo explains that the clinic doesn’t perform reconstructive surgery, prompting Ki-taek to cause a commotion in the lobby, drawing the onlookers’ attention with more tension.
Another story follows Oh Ji-yoon (played by Jang Ha-eun), who wants to alter her face to erase the resemblance to her late twin sister. His mother (played by Seo Young-hee) opposes the surgery and comes to the clinic, but Jung-woo remains steadfast, prioritizing medical judgment over personal stories.
Violent encounters and a dramatic chase
Initially, Jung-woo pushes away Kim Da-hee (played by Park Seung-yeon), who wanted cosmetic surgery. Later, however, Da-hee is found injured in the parking lot, which leads to a full-fledged case. Da-hee is then kidnapped by her boyfriend Choi Chang-min (played by Ryu Hae-joon), sparking an intense chase as Min-hyung teams up with Jung-woo to rescue her. The case unfolds quickly and Jung-woo tells Da-hee “I can help you change the way you look, but any other changes have to come from within”, solving his ordeal.
“Face Me”, having completed the preparation, begins to unfold in earnest from episode 2
At the end of the episode, an unexpected shock occurs when Ki-taek, furious over his daughter’s rejection of surgery, makes an irreversible decision. The plastic surgery brochure with a message addressed to Cha Jung-woo further increases the tension, leaving viewers eagerly awaiting the next episode.
After the broadcast, viewers responded positively to the drama, praising the realism and urgency of the surgery scenes, saying: “It was so engaging.” They also noted: “The character introductions were strong and I was hooked from the start” AND “Lee Min-ki’s acting remains outstanding.” Jung-woo and Min-hyung’s contrasting qualities have received praise, with comments such as: “Both characters bring a distinct charm”, “Han Ji-hyun fits well into the role of a detective” AND “The story is fresh and exciting and I’m curious to see how it will develop.”
