Netizens don’t believe it.
The controversial streamer Johnny Somali apologized to the South Koreans in a new one YouTube video.
Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, has quickly become a despised public figure in Korea after his multiple questionable shenanigans, including harassment of Korean convenience store workers, public indecency and acts of vandalism. He was also attacked by a Korean citizen for disrespecting the Statue of Peace in Itaewon.
A week ago, the streamer was investigated by the police and barred from leaving the country until the case was closed. It was also reported that he could face 10 years in prison for alleged drug abuse.
In this tense situation, the Somali apologized to the Korean people in a YouTube video. It was uploaded by a Korean vlogging channel called J Company on Nov. 7, KST. In the video, Somali was approached by a group of Korean streamers and vloggers, who reassured his team that they only wanted to talk and did not intend to inflict any violence. After he got out of the car, vloggers urged him to apologize to Koreans who were deeply offended that he kissed the Statue of Peace, a highly revered memorial dedicated to Korean comfort women.
The streamer agreed to apologize and said he was unaware of the statue’s importance.
“I want to apologize to the Korean people. I was not aware of the significance of the statue. I was trying to get… just entertainment for my audience. We are from America, we don’t know much about comfort women, much about the statue… I didn’t want to cause pain or get anyone in trouble.

He apologized again, standing in front of the Statue of Peace, while one of the men in his entourage guided him in conveying his words in Korean.

But netizens are not convinced of his sincerity and deemed the apology “false”. Many suspect that he did this to gain an advantage in the ongoing investigations against him.

Ironic, considering the fact that he recently claimed to be racist for “money” and “influence” pic.twitter.com/iNFZYkfkjd

Johnny Somali makes false apology to the South Korean people. Anyone with half a brain knows that these excuses don’t mean shit. He’s lying. He’s just doing it to save his own skin. I hope Korea stays strong and produces results #johnnysomali address the numerous laws he broke in Korea. Will they do it? pic.twitter.com/SfgLrCFefY

Dear South Korean police, don’t fall for Johnny Somalo’s “excuses”.
He will definitely do it again after the apology for corruption. He was only sorry because he had been captured. Clear and simple.
