BTS’ Jin talks about the personal inspiration behind his new self-produced single

It was the first time he wrote an entire song.

BTS‘S Jin recently guested on episode 64 of Jang Do Yeon‘S Drip in lounge 2 to promote his upcoming solo album HAPPY. He spoke about the inspiration behind his pre-release single “I’ll Be There.”

Jin explained how, while doing his mandatory military service, he was eager to return home and meet the ARMYs. So, as soon as he returned, he started writing the lyrics of the song dedicated to his fans.

When I served in the military, I really wanted to go home, work and meet my fans. So I decided to make use of my time and created a huge list of different ideas. And starting the day after my discharge I wrote the lyrics to my fan song.

—Jin

Jin revealed that it was the first time he had written the lyrics for an entire song, and he accomplished it quickly. He was able to do this because of his love for ARMY. “I’ll Be There” is all about his love for ARMY.

Jin: It was the first time I wrote the lyrics to an entire song, but I only did it in a day or two.

Jang Do Yeon: Are you thinking about your fans?

Jin: I put it all in a song.

Jin had a good portion of the lyrics as ideas while he was still in service. “I’ll Be There” is certainly a significant song for Jin and ARMY.

Jin: I filled the song with my desire. I… I’ll be there soon. I will soon leave this place to join you, so please wait for me. That’s where it all started. 30% of the lyrics come from ideas I wrote during my military service.

Jang Do Yeon: It must be an album of great value to you and your fans.

Jin: AND.
