“The idea is to emphasize its role as a game-changer…”
This article is part of our coverage of the HYBE internal documents scandal. You can read more and view the entire timeline here.
In another series of shocking leaked “reports”, one section in particular revealed HYBE’s elaborate plan to appoint its president, Bang Si HyukMoreover “friendly” in comparison to other powerful names in K-Pop like JY Park (Jin Young Park) e Lee Soo Man.
The section, drawn up on November 30, 2022, reported a First Video documentary produced for presentation SM Entertainment founder and former CEO Lee Soo Man.
After plotting to sabotage the production “for fun”, the document compares Lee Soo Man and JYP entertainmentfrom JY Park to Bang Si Hyuk.
A documentary titled “Lee Soo Man: the king of K-Popwill be produced for Amazon Prime. Most reactions so far suggest it reminds them of the Japanese Johnny’s CEO, and some comments even question whether the documentary will include his involvement with Interpol, as well as suspicions of preferential outsourcing to his private affairs. Since it is for Amazon Prime, it is clear that this content is not primarily intended for Korean audiences. If this approach continues, SM Entertainment’s management and producers in the post-Lee Soo Man era will likely face significant internal conflicts. It would be fun if there was a way to create conflict and bring these issues to light.

The document highlights the need to make Bang Si Hyuk bigger “friendly”, between JY Park prioritizing his career and Lee Soo Man basking in self-admiration.
In fact, the document outlines an elaborate plan to make Bang Si Hyuk more likable, and then goes on to praise him as a “paradigm shift”:
While JY Park insists on holding a concert at the end of the year and Lee Soo Man can’t shake his self-admiration, it seems necessary that Si Hyuk-nim to gradually play a more “nice” role. Given that the other two continually promote themselves, I wonder whether it would be worth planning a long-term approach in which foreign magazines highlight [Bang Si Hyuk] during major events at the US branch. For example, instead of Fortune or the Time magazines, it could be something like GQ that highlights it. The first sentence should be something like: “He’s not the king of K-Pop.” The idea is to emphasize its role as a game-changer that breaks the boundaries of the genre and changes the paradigm.

This section has since garnered a lot of attention online, with K-Pop fans interpreting it as “key test” that the reports were, in essence, written “to please Bang Si Hyuk.”
- “Friendly? LMAO.”
- “Is this why he keeps Photoshopping the photos he uses in his articles…? Is that part of being nice?”
- “His butt is going to develop rashes from all the kissing going on.”
- “This is beyond what I imagined. Really… I feel nauseous.”
- “I think this section actually serves as key evidence. It tells us who these reports were written for. Who would be the most important person to see them? You can immediately see the purpose of these relationships even if they already exist.”
- “Am I out of my mind?”
- “Wow… I feel like throwing up thinking about how satisfied Bang must have been after reading this.”
- “How are we supposed to appreciate a fat man in love with an adult streamer? LMAO. His whole being is abominable.”
- “So these reports were written specifically to float Bang’s boat.”
