Did ghosts really appear during the filming of EXO’s hit song, “Growl”? Find out more about the scary stories members experienced behind the scenes!
In 2013, boy group “Nation’s Pick” debuted one of K-pop’s most iconic songs, “Growl”, which elevated their status in the Korean music scene. Apart from its addictive lyrics and melody, it has also become the talk of the town for its music video shot in a single take.
As the MV gained massive attention, some sharp-eyed viewers felt an eerie feeling watching it as they claimed to have spotted a “ghost” caught on camera.
In the video, an image of a faceless man could be seen hidden in the darkness standing behind a clear glass window. This immediately led to suspicions that it might be a ghost, due to where it was filmed.
Specifically, to film the MV, EXO members and crew went to Shindongsin Industrial High School in Seoul and used its warehouse. The school is infamous for its haunted and terrible past for its frequent cases of bullying and students taking their own lives due to school pressure.
Before using the warehouse, it was abandoned for 7 years after three students committed suicide together in the past and even some school staff were reluctant to lend it to him.

The group filmed from 8pm to 3am, during which the members themselves experienced chilling encounters.
For Sehun, he heard his mother telling him to wake up. Xiumin, on the other hand, always felt sleepy no matter how hard he tried to fight it.
Luhan was then certain that he saw the people inside the warehouse before they arrived, while Chanyeol claimed that he saw Baekhyun’s doppelganger when the real one was with DO the whole time.
When this story circulated, many people looked to confirm whether it was a ghost, and while some believed it, the truth was explained by EXO themselves that the entity was actually not a ghost, but an SM staff!
Looking closely, the “ghost” was seen with a water bottle, and was accidentally included in the shot because he was unaware that he would be seen on camera.
The ghost story, which scared all EXO-Ls in 2013, turned out to be just a camera accident!
