The CEO of HYBE has spoken.

MOVESthe CEO Lee Jae Sang apologized on behalf of the company for its inappropriate internal documents.

In a statement shared by Lee Jae Sang, he apologized on behalf of HYBE for the company’s leaked internal documents.

As the CEO of HYBE, I would like to apologize for the company’s internal monitoring documents.

I would like to bow my head to apologize to the artists, industry officials and fans regarding our internal monitoring documents which were shared during the audit of the National Assembly with the committee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on October 24th.

The documents were prepared by collecting various public reactions and opinions in response to industry trends and issues. They were shared only by some members of the leadership [of the company] aimed at understanding public opinion and fans, however the content of the documents was extremely inappropriate. On behalf of the company, we acknowledge all our mistakes and take responsibility for the inflammatory and vulgar remarks made towards other K-Pop artists, for the inclusion of the author’s personal opinions and evaluations, and for the fact that these ideas have been documented. In particular, we are very sorry and remorseful for situations where innocent artists and members were misunderstood and victimized due to suspicions arising from reverse virality rumors that were not true. [T/N: reverse virality refers to spreading an idea with the intention to create a negative public opinion]

We would like to respectfully and officially apologize to the artists who were mentioned in the documents and who were hurt by them. We have also contacted each agency of the artists mentioned and apologized to them directly. We also sincerely apologize to our HYBE artists, who are taking the blame for their company.

We recognize that the leadership who shared the documents was not aware of the potential issues they would pose, and, as CEO, I immediately stopped the creation of future documents. I promise to establish guidelines and strengthen internal control to prevent something like this from happening again.

Once again, I would like to apologize to the artists, industry officials, fans and everyone who loves and supports K-Pop who have been hurt by this. As the CEO of the company, I would like to say that I intend to comprehensively improve the wrongdoings of the past, and will do my best for the continued development of the K-Pop industry through self-reflection and prioritizing rights and interests of K-Pop. Pop artists and fans.
