According to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Inje Ilsan Paik University, the event titled “Play this song at my funeral” was held from October 23 to 24 as part of Hospice and Palliative Care Week. It featured a display of staff thoughts written on paper in front of the staff canteen.
A total of 368 songs were selected in the K-pop category, including:
- “Through the Night” by IU (22 votes)
- “Time of Our Life” by DAY6 (21 votes)
- “Don’t Worry” by Jeon In-kwon (13 votes)
- “APT” by Rosé and Bruno Mars. (10 votes)
- “The Meeting” by Lee So-young (9 votes)
- “Family Portrait” by Kim Jin-ho (8 votes)
- “Well done, My Life!” by Busker Busker (7 votes)
- “Now Goodbye” by 015B (6 votes)
Additionally, 12 hymns, 30 pop songs including “My Way” and 11 classical pieces such as requiems were listed as desired funeral songs.
Specifically, “APT” by Rosé. gained attention for being among the charted songs, as it was inspired by a Korean drinking game called “Apartment”. In this game, participants stack their hands and take turns removing their hands from the bottom until someone rolls a hand on a specific called number, resulting in a drink penalty.
Since its release, “APT”. achieved considerable success, reaching number one in the US Spotify charts and number four in the UK Official Singles Chart.
Director Lee Eun-sook commented: “As awareness spreads of pre-planned funerals and wills, we hope this campaign will encourage people to reflect and prepare for the end of their lives. We also want it to be a time to think about hospice care and the patients who use these services.”
