In a show, ex-LABOUM Yulhee confessed the real reason why she had to give up custody of three children to ex-husband Choi Minhwan.
Why did they break up?
In the latest episode of TV Chosun’s “Now I’m Alone”, single mother Yulhee recalled the pain she suffered after her divorce when she had to leave her three children with her ex-husband, FTISLAND Minhwan.
The former couple got married in 2018 and were blessed with a son and twin daughters. Unfortunately, they announced their divorce in 2023 after five years together. At the time, Yulhee received massive criticism for giving up custody of the children and later flaunting her single life on social media.
During the broadcast, the former K-pop idol clarified the reason for his decision.
“I wanted my children to grow up in realistic and well-protected economic conditions. We lived in a large family and I saw my children living happily, and it’s actually a very nice environment.”
In a YouTube vlog she uploaded, she further explained that she initially wanted to take the children with her, with Choi Minhwan paying her $36,200 for their new home and $1,450 in child support every month in addition to dividing their assets on both sides.
However, Yulhee wanted to ask for a more reasonable sum, which would only lead to a lawsuit.
Because she was so emotionally tired from all this, she decided not to divide the assets or pay child support, but she would have to sign the children over to him.

Yulhee claimed that Minhwan was the one who talked about the divorce. Later, she revealed in her vlog that she was constantly put down by her family and that it would embarrass her. She also claimed that the male idol was not faithful to her during their marriage.
However, journalist Lee Jin Ho, a notorious insider, revealed in an article that the reasons also stemmed from Yulhee’s lifestyle. She was a night owl and struggled to wake up in the morning to take her children to school, which required a three-hour commute to get them to a prestigious kindergarten.
This job was left in Minhwan’s care and he would receive help from his in-laws, which sparked arguments between the couple.
While Yulhee also supported the family’s income during the pandemic, the couple’s relationship grew distant due to differences in their priorities.
