Former Teen Top CAP member: ‘Hanni from NewJeans makes $3.8 million despite not being Korean’

Through a video entitled “Parliamentary review of NewJeans Hanni is problematic” on his YouTube channel, CAP began by stating: “I read about Hanni’s participation in the parliamentary review, and it was all about her. For someone like NewJeans who I consider to be in a completely different class, how can others relate if he only talks about his own experiences?

He continued, “You can’t just talk about yourself. It’s okay to use your fame, but shouldn’t you use that fame to speak for others? They would have to bring in interns who weren’t actually getting paid. If you want to address employment law issues, you should be talking about the 10% who have been disrespected as contract workers and freelancers, and instead you only talked about “our team this” and “our team that ”, and how our team leader did this and that.”

Referring specifically to Hanni’s Vietnamese-Australian background and NewJeans’ recent 5.2 billion won (about $3.8 million) deal, he raised his voice, saying: “If someone who isn’t even Korean talks about themselves 90% of the time, what do you think? Normal people assume that a group like NewJeans is making a lot of money. This is a negative perception, both for her and for her group.”

CAP argued that instead of highlighting Hanni, who earns $3.8 million and is foreign, it would be better to address disrespect and bullying in the entertainment industry. He underlined, “There are a lot of vulnerable people around me. And there must be numerous people affiliated with entertainment companies. The focus should be on them, but instead they talk about how their team was disrespected and bullied. Although her presence was good, she failed to convey the right message.

He underlined, “Successful celebrities have it easy. The problem lies with those who didn’t make it. The problem is the invisible” adding, “If you want your voice to be heard, you have to create empathy with people in the gray area, but Hanni failed to do that. It was frustrating.

Meanwhile, HYBE and ADOR director Min Hee-jin have been in conflict for seven months over allegations of stealing management rights. In particular, Min Hee-jin and NewJeans raised issues related to HYBE’s copying, disrespect, and bullying, which led to Hanni and ADOR CEO Kim Ju-young being called as witnesses during the audit of the National Assembly.

During his participation in the Environment and Labor Committee’s audit on 15 October, Hanni addressed workplace bullying issues related to “idolatrous ostracism”. As for CEO Kim, he stated, “I don’t think CEO Kim did his best. There were more things he could have done and, despite saying he would protect us, he didn’t even show the will to act.” adding, “I hope he can do better in the future. I know this problem will pass if we talk about it now, so before we discuss the future, I hope this problem can be resolved quickly. “
