Watch their debut performance below.
The first public performance by a girl group has gone viral, but unfortunately not in the most positive way.
UNi is a four-member girl group based in Hong Kong. The group released its debut single album on September 27, 2024.
In October, the United Nations held its first showcase in a mall. While they certainly caught the public’s attention, it wasn’t the positive response they had hoped for.

“Everyone else needs to listen to this song. So there is a new independent group in Hong Kong: UNi. They held a debut showcase yesterday at THE ONE [shopping mall]. I wanted to support them, but when I clicked on the video…fuck. It’s wild. I’m not trying to be mean but… bro, I can’t stand it.
They were originally a five-member group. One person left but they didn’t rearrange the choreography. Did they keep it in loving memory of the former member or something? Pay for singing and dancing lessons first. No wonder they are independent. I don’t want to listen to them even if you paid me… so everyone should listen to it too!!! I wonder if THE ONE staff can get treatment for damaged eardrums while working!!”
– Netizens
Netizens noticed that the members sang off-key during the show.
They also thought the choreography was a disaster.
After their performance went viral, UN leader Szeching addressed the situation personally.

“Hello everyone, I’m the UN leader, Szeching.
First and foremost, I am very grateful to have performed at THE ONE for our debut show. Thanks to all the staff of THE ONE and our distribution company for organizing the debut press conference.
Thank you all for supporting UNi’s debut showcase and providing us with various feedback. I received everything. After thinking about it over the last few days, I admit that I was not able to show 100% of my abilities. I also recognize that mistakes were made that day. Therefore, I am not going to refute any of the criticisms. Instead, I am grateful for everyone’s valuable opinions, which have allowed me and my team to improve. Thank you.
This was our first stage performance. Since we were nervous, we lost control of the song. Also, because it was in a large open space, we couldn’t hear our own voices (it was like we were deaf and couldn’t hear our own voices). As a result, performance was inadequate. Of course our experience was also insufficient.
There were many regrets about this performance. As independent artists, we don’t have much help from professionals. From the song, to the music video, to the choreography, to the equipment, to the stage, to the backdrop and to the supporting slogans that day, we handled everything ourselves. Of course we were inadequate in this respect, so this should not be an excuse for me and my group members. However, this was a significant learning experience for me and the team.
My members and I will definitely take more classes after this. I hope that next time we can give the audience a performance it deserves.”
