On October 22, various online community forums were flooded with critical posts titled “Agency moves without informing their artist IU”, “EDAM Entertainment did not inform IU of the move”, AND “Another incident with the IU agency.”
The episode in question unfolded as follows. On October 20, IU appeared in her official fan café and engaged in exchanging comments with fans. During this interaction, fans expressed confusion regarding fan letters being returned when sent to EDAM Entertainment’s recent address, asking IU, “We heard rumors that EDAM would move. It is true? Has the address for sending fan letters changed?”
The UI responded, “Huh? We didn’t move! Did they do it without telling me? As far as I know, we haven’t moved!”
However, the next day, October 21, EDAM Entertainment belatedly posted a notice on the fan café stating: “Due to the company relocation, the address has changed and we are providing updated instructions for support requests. Please note that mail cannot be received at the previous address, so be careful to avoid any confusion.
Putting this information together, it appears that the agency took action without IU’s knowledge, which sparked outrage among fans. Notably, IU is the third largest shareholder with a 22.5% stake, and although EDAM Entertainment also represents artist WOODZ (Jo Seung-yeon), the majority of revenue comes from IU.
As a result, fans express their accumulated frustrations, saying: “How can they handle things so badly when they only have two artists, IU and WOODZ?”
Previously in April, EDAM Entertainment drew criticism for requesting excessive verification documents from a fan suspected of unauthorized IU concert ticket transactions. This incident was eventually resolved with an apology from EDAM Entertainment.
Meanwhile, attempts to contact EDAM Entertainment representatives regarding the transfer controversy were unsuccessful and all calls went unanswered.
