Ahn Sung-jae, who gained attention for his role in Netflix’s “Culinary Class Wars” series, recently appeared in a stylish photo shoot for “Singles” magazine. While filming, she showcased various styles, exuding a sophisticated vibe.
“Culinary Class Wars” is a Netflix original reality show featuring a cooking competition between 20 renowned chefs and amateur chefs. The show quickly gained popularity, topping Netflix’s list of the top 10 non-English TV shows in its first week.
Regarding his participation, Ahn Sung-jae shared, “I never thought we would have to show something funny or scripted. In discussion with the production team, I insisted that there should be no exaggerated or scripted elements for the sake of entertainment.
He added, “I take food very seriously and I didn’t want the chefs to simply be entertainers. I hoped that the stubborn and passionate side of the chefs would emerge and that a fantastic program would be created to benefit the restaurant industry.” He expressed gratitude for the production team’s understanding and support of his views.
When asked how he compared and judged dishes from the “imokase” and fine dining categories, Ahn Sung-jae explained: “I wanted to judge based on the type of cuisine. For everyday meals I have integrated my expert knowledge into public standards. For fine dining concepts, I evaluated which techniques were used and how well they aligned with the chef’s intentions, as well as the sophistication of those techniques.
Ahn Sung-jae also shared his thoughts on a potential season 2, «I’ll think about it when the time comes. It must align with the right times and conditions.
Additionally, when asked if he would accept an offer to appear on another global culinary survival show, the chef responded: “I always say this, but when I’m asked to appear on a show like that, I’ll see if my standards are met, and since my focus is on my culinary career, I’ll have to see if my schedule matches. If these standards and timing are right and I have something to contribute, I will obviously consider the offer.”
