Many expressed excitement for the group’s return during the teasers, praising the members for their visuals and the look of the album at that point. However, Korean netizens reacted less than impressed after the album’s release.

In particular, Korean fans seem less than enthusiastic about the title track, “Gold”, finding it lacking compared to their expectations.

Now, days after the release of the title track, its chart performance seems to reflect netizens’ lack of interest in the song.

A viral post on a Korean forum shared MelOn’s performance of the song for the past three days. The song’s chart dropped every day; as of October 17th there were 325.

  • No matter how well the boys perform on stage with that song… JYP has done a really bad job lately.
  • JYP was the best label for girl groups… How did it end up like this?
  • They are so out of touch… Honestly, they are worse than smaller companies
  • Honestly, ITZY’s songs have been receiving this kind of reaction for a long time (not only ITZY, but several JYP artists…) and it doesn’t seem like they plan to change.
  • Every time it falls short of expectations, and this time I got my hopes up after seeing the teaser… but it’s worse than ever. If a newcomer had sung it it would have been a success… but it’s not the quality that a group with so much experience should highlight. This also applies to TWICE… I think the company has really lost its touch.
  • The song is really terrible… How can it get worse and worse? From “Sneakers”it all went wrong, but now”Gym shoes” seems like a masterpiece in comparison… They need to overhaul the entire A&R team. Even if they had no common sense, they couldn’t be so out of touch.
